Field Notes commissions, develops and presents art that finds new ways to break old ground; infiltrating the public realm and opening up exciting, challenging but ultimately accessible channels into a world of contemporary art using a platform of unusual community sites. These strategies and projects contribute to the cultural life of our towns, cities and rural communities.

Field Notes is focused on activity beyond the established centres of the art world; by developing projects which bring cutting edge contemporary practice to communities with limited local access.
By supporting the practice of artists who operate from or engage with these communities, we seek to challenge a rural art status quo by providing access, information and support that taps into an international debate whilst simultaneously bringing different communities together to share ideas and celebrate heritage on a local scale.
We have worked everywhere from disused chapels and four-storey shops to yacht clubs, mackerel fishing boats, Elizabethan museums and white walled streamlined galleries producing giant art festivals, intimate commissions nestled within existing collections and multi-layered elusive journeys that explore ideas, towns, histories, woodlands.

SERVICES
Field Notes supports artists to explore extraordinary ideas in unexpected locations; creating new environments for discovery, challenge, celebration and collaboration. Through innovative commissions and creative consultancy we help others to do the same.
An overview of Field Notes:
Projects - from initial research, conceptual development, bid writing and securing funding through to marketing, administration, project management and event delivery. At Field Notes, we ensure all projects we work on are completed on schedule and within budget.
Commissioning - working with a range of individuals and organisations to develop audience appropriate site specific commissions. We have worked with organisations including New Expressions, Penryn Town Council, Inland Art Festival, Goonhilly Village Green and Newlyn Art Gallery.
Consultancy - providing active support in the development and running of one off events and projects. We also work with a host of individuals, commercial businesses, community groups and arts organisations to support the development of strategies, interpretation, project development and event management.
Field Notes Programme - a series of one off screenings, talks, networking events and artist development sessions run in collaboration with international organisations, held in regional spaces.

Rosie Allen and Cat Bagg
Field Notes is the collaborative practice of Cat Bagg and Rosie Allen. We both trained and practised as artists, self-organising projects and exhibitions independently. In 2012 we each made the decision to study Curatorial Practice at MA level and that is how we met.
Since that time we’ve worked almost exclusively in a curatorial capacity funnelling our joint practice into the shape of an organisation so that we can leverage more for the artists and audiences we work with; finding ourselves joining conversations under the guise of business, undertaking negotiations in ways that would be impossible as an individual, and acting as a voice for arts and culture in spaces where they can be hard to find.
Our creativity is fuelled by the artists, sites and communities we work with. Each new project is an opportunity to explore new ideas, discovering layers of history, ecology and folklore - almost always in Cornwall, which has become the principal subject of our work as well as our main site of activity.

Katie is an artist and arts organiser living and working in Cornwall. Since graduating from her BA Fine Art and Visual Culture in 2021 she has assisted Cat and Rosie at Field Notes, alongside working as an art technician and establishing her own creative practice. She enjoys creating collaborative and site-specific projects that engage with the Cornish landscape, often exploring bodies of water, post-industrial sites and mystical narratives.
Katie is an artist and arts organiser living and working in Cornwall.
